Yaya for newborns..

I know I may be to eager since my due date is still a couple of months away.

But I think, its better to have things in order before my baby comes.

Right now, I am looking for a yaya for my March 2011 newborn.  I am starting this early because I've had friends who until two weeks after they've given birth still don't have a yaya to help them out.  I would like to be prepared in a way - and that's why, this early - I'm looking for a yaya already.

To the mommies out there, what questions should I be asking the yayas I will be considering?  What should I take note of?  What are the important things that I have to consider?

Can you mommies help me me out?

I would appreciate ALL the inputs!!

Thanks in advance!

  1. Here's my opinion :)

    1. It's better if the yaya's hired before the child is born this way you're able to get to know her well. And bring her to the hospital during birth para the nurses can show her how to bath, feed, carry, etc the new born.

    2. ask if she has prior newborn experience--these yayas charge more.

    3. Her hygiene. Better tell her directly that you want her to take a bath BEFORE HANDLING the child in the morning. wash her hands, etc

    4. Who was her previous employer and why did she resign at least you have an idea...

    5. IS she willing to undergo general check up like XRAY? I'm assuming you're having her checked since newborns are very delicate and sensitive.

Also set your limits, tell her what she can do and what she can't with the baby. Like she's not allowed to kiss the baby on the lips, or do not allow anyone else kiss the baby or touch the baby's face, etc...

It's also better to discuss what your set-up will be. LIke who will wake up in the middle of the night to feed the baby or change diapers, etc..

    I hope this helps!

  3. require all prospective yayas to provide nbi and police clearance, throw in a barangay clearance na din.

better to ask for referrals from friends. mahirap din kapag sa agency galing dami ding modus operandi.

better get someone na may anak na din or may experience na mag alaga ng new born. dont bother kung teenager, mahirap at walang malasakit sa bata.

also speculate on their previous employment and reasons for leaving. I think Renz already made a very good list there :)
